Vice President, Sales and Business Development

We are looking for a proven Executive Sales and Business Development Leader to set the sales direction for our company and act as a key member of our executive leadership team. You will be responsible for all sales and business development within our growing microbiome testing/CRO business. This position reports directly to the CEO. ( is a fast growing Vancouver-based company providing state-of-the art sample testing and analysis of the microbiome (communities of microbes that inhabit humans, animals, plants and environments). We enable researchers and clinicians to easily and effectively include microbiome analysis in their studies, across a range of human, animal, agricultural and environmental research applications. Our team of experts and testing methods combine to provide fast, dependable, cost-effective results for clients including analyses on microbial profiles of disease, treatment responses and environmental changes. Understanding the microbiome is one of the most important and fastest growing areas of science, a critical part of human, animal, plant and environmental health.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop sales strategy and action plan to achieve Microbiome Insights’ goals and revenue targets
  • Build, develop, manage and lead a sales team in successfully achieving revenue targets
  • Enhance infrastructure, process and systems to support a rapidly growing sales function
  • Properly manage pipeline while retaining key accounts and growing the company’s customer base
  • Understand our markets and industry to identify opportunities to drive revenue growth
  • Manage key customer relationships and participate in closing strategic opportunities
  • Create and foster a culture that motivates team to exceed targets
  • Monitor and provide necessary sales forecasting, reporting and metrics to leadership team
  • Monitor customer, market and competitor activity and provide feedback to leadership team

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree with major in microbiology, biology, genomics or related field is required – an advanced science and/or MBA degree is an asset
  • 7-10+ years of experience in technical/science-driven consultative selling of technologies and services in areas like genomics, the microbiome or metabolomics, plus 4+ years of sales leadership experience are required
  • Strong leadership presence in motivating, inspiring and driving the team to success
  • Proven track record in closing deals and exceeding sales quotas and targets
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal/written communication
  • Strategic thinker with strong planning, negotiation and forecasting skills
  • Excellent collaboration and negotiation skills
  • Ability to travel, domestic and international, 25% of time
